Grown and harvested in Ontario, organic Blue-Kuri Squash seeds take 90 days to reach maturity. Finally an open pollinated Japanese Kabocha type squash.  Round, slightly flattened fruits have blue-grey skin and dense dry orange flesh with a sweet, rich flavor that is even better after a month or two of storage. Small to medium size fruit weigh 1000-1500 g and serve one to two people. Early ripening and long storability make it even better.

Planting Instructions

Plant squash indoors 2-3 weeks before your last frost date or direct seed outdoors once the soil has warmed to 21 degrees Celsius. Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep Sow 2-3 seeds 30 cm apart and thin to the strongest seedling. Provide plants with lots of high quality compost or organic fertilizer for strong healthy growth. If cucumber beetles are a problem, cover the young plants with floating row cover until they start to flower, then remove cloth so pollination can occur.

About Organic Seeds

What are organic seeds? An organic seed is an unaltered seed that comes from a purely raised plant with no genetic modification and that has not been affected by chemical applications or additives. Because organic growers are not permitted to use synthetic pesticides on their plants, the plants naturally become adapted to withstand pests and other natural enemies such as harsh weather. They have to, in order to defend themselves. When organic seed is used, the plants have that intrinsic strength. In other words, the flavour, colour, nutrition, and natural defenses are bred into the seed.
