Description
Organic Oka Melon Seeds
Grown and harvested in Ontario, organic Oka Melon seeds take 80 days to reach maturity. This delicious melon was bred by Father Athanase of the Trappist Monastery at La Trappe, Quebec around 1912. He crossed the green fleshed Montreal Market melon with a Banana melon. The result is an early, sweet, orange-fleshed melon with a netted rind. It almost disappeared but was rediscovered growing on Bizard Island in Quebec and we are pleased to be able to offer it.
Planting Instructions
Start indoors 4 weeks before your frost free date. Sow seeds .6 cm deep 10 cm pots and keep temperatures between 27 and 32 degrees C. Thin to one plant per pot and keep warm and moist. Harden off before planting outside into rich soil. Keep soil moist until fruits set then allow the soil to stay on the dry side. Harvest when the tendril on the vine nearest the fruit stem is browning or dead. The melons will be sweet and fragrant when ripe.
