Organic Red-Russian Kale Seeds

Grown and harvested in Ontario, organic Red-Russian Kale seeds take 25 days for baby greens and 50 days for full size maturity. This heirloom kale has sweet, tender young leaves that work great in mid-summer salad mixes. Mature leaves can be bundled up as bunching greens. The gray-green leaves have bright purple stems and toothed margins. Very pretty in the ornamental kitchen garden.

Planting Instructions

Direct sow as soon as soil can be worked in spring or start indoors 4 weeks before planting out date. For fall production, sow 8-10 weeks before first frost date for full size and up until frost date for baby leaf. Sow seed .6 cm deep. For baby leaf production sow 50 seeds per 30 cm  in 5-10 cm bands and harvest leaves at 3 1/2 to 5 weeks. For full size  production sow 3-4 seeds every 20-25 cm in rows spaced 45-75 cm apart. Thin plants to 20-25 cm apart. Taste is improved after plants have been exposed to light frost. Hardy biennial.
